EIKON & frieze d/e invite you …

On Friday, May 13, EIKON and frieze d/e are on a joint mission:

The event takes off with the opening of a new exhibition at the EIKON SchAUfenster (Electric Avenue, quartier21) at 6pm. The artists Manfred Grübl and Werner Schrödl transform the exhibition space into a billboard. By means of an oversized, photographic snapshot they show the process of creation of their installation at Galerie Momentum.

At 7pm, the DVD IMA fiction portrait # 5 portraying the media artist Andrea Sodomka is presented at MUMOK. The upcoming issue of EIKON #74 (to be published on May 24) contains an article on the DVD. ”What distinguishes Andrea Sodomka, to my mind, is her ability to reinvent herself time after time, setting out again and again, gauging her own boundaries. Her oeuvre ranges from painting to radio art, from photography to sound installation, from making inner spaces audible up to filling large rooms with live electronic sound.” (Gabriele Mathes)

Afterwards, we are celebrating the launch of the new frieze d/e. The international art magazine frieze d/e, which focuses on contemporary art and exhibitions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, is now available in German and English.

The frieze d/e launch party takes place in the MUMOK Lounge.

Once again EIKON participates at the international art fair VIENNAFAIR which takes place in our home country Austria from May 12 to 15, 2011.

This year sees the staging of the 7th edition of the VIENNAFAIR – The International Contemporary Art Fair FOCUSED ON CEE – in hall A at the Messe Wien expo complex. From the 12th – 15th May Vienna once again becomes the centre of an artistic exchange between east and west. More than 120 galleries from Austria, Western, Eastern and Southern Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Mexico present a fascinating multiplicity of contemporary art. The programme is rounded off by a special display entitled ‘DIYALOG: ART FROM ISTANBUL’, plus discussion events and a ‘Performance Night’.

This year EIKON presents its exhibition „Edition EIKON: Photography“.

We are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition on May 24 at 7pm. The event is taking place at the well-known design hotel Le Méridien Vienna. From the magazine’s foundation onward this is the first-time extensive exhibition displaying the limited Edition EIKON. The artworks will be exhibited and available for purchase from May 25 until August 17. Additionally the latest EIKON issue #74 will be presented at the opening on May 24.
