EIKON issue #75 Magazine Launch

After the last few hot summer days International Magazine for Photography and Media art provides an exciting refreshment and a good start to the new art season with the new EIKON #75: EIKON travels to the far north to Finland and offers with the exciting Feature Backlight 2011 insights into the 9th edition of the Photo Triennial in Tampere, which concentrates on the subject “Migration and Nomadic Living”. This time in the Artist Pages: TAJ FORER, ERNST LOGAR, NILBAR GÜREŞ, and EDWARD BURTYNSKY. Opening EIKON SchAUfenster: Nilbar Güres

In her video performance „Undressing“ the young Turkish artist Nilbar Güres who lives in Vienna now reflects the situation of Muslim women living in Austria. Güres shows that veiling is a personal statement incorporating a biographic element: different forms of putting the veil on or the conscious choice of the fabric´s pattern refer to a self-governed individuality and identity of the respective women.

Backlight 2011

The 9th edition of the Backlight Photo Festival in Tampere/Finland opens the doors on September 17! Backlight 2011 theme and working title has been “Migration and Nomadic Living in 21st Century – Rural Traditions and Urban Hypes”. The Photo Festival is focused on photography, but it also accepts photography-based projects that are combined with other media. The festival is rooted in documentary photography and still open to different artistic approaches. It promotes intercultural dialogue by focusing on revealing the hidden, the veiled, the lost and forgotten.

Following the turbulent developments of Berlin’s art fair landscape in 2011, PREVIEW BERLIN – The Emerging Art Fair now presents an upcoming generation of 61 galleries and project spaces from 15 nations in the spectacular location of former Airport Berlin Tempelhof. On show from September 9 to 11, the fair features two new projects this year: With VIDEO ART BOX by Fresh Paint and FOCUS ACADEMY, the focus of the exhibition discourse has been placed squarely on the interface between art production and the art market.
